Overview
Admins can import Google Slides to help build slide templates reps will use to create their presentations from. Within them, you can add variables to images or text elements to add placeholders for where the reps should customize.
There are two methods for this:
You can add in a dynamic variable (i.e. {{account_name}}) directly to the slide as a text. This is a plain text field and should be used for small updates to a slide such as a customer name or datapoint.
Leverage Alt Text. This can be used for a bigger text box (i.e. challenge bullet points) or an image. It can be a rich text field when editing.
By adding these placeholders to slides reps can then easily customize when creating slide presentations.
Adding a Simple Dynamic Variable in GSlides
Simply type in the variable in the {{x}} format as text to the slide:
Adding an Alt Text field in GSlides
First, make sure you have your Slides open!
Step 1: Select an image or text box
Step 2: Right click or click Format options in the top nav bar
Step 3: On the right hand side, expand the Alt Text field
Step 4: Add a variable in the Alt text field
The variable can be named whatever you want but must be in the following format contained by brackets: {{variable}}
What does this look like in Dock?
As the rep creates and edits their presentation (guidance here), they will see any slide that has variables. By clicking on the slide, they can adjust those variables on the right-hand side to customize their slides.
Updating content in Google
If any Slide Templates have been created by importing Google Slides, Dock can use those Slides as it's source moving forward. All you need to do is re-sync the slides to pull over any updates to Dock.
When you re-sync:
Content updates (e.g. images, text changes) will apply to the template AND any presentations reps have created from that template.
If the rep has re-ordered any slides or updated variables, those slides will not be updated.
This ensures your team always uses the latest version without breaking personalization.
