How to integrate Dock with a private Slack channel

Updated over a year ago

Overview

To use private channels with the Slack integration, you must go into each private channel in Slack and add the Dock app. For instructions on how to add the app to a private channel, read on.

Adding the Dock App to a Private Channel

First, double check you have Slack integrated with Dock! Then follow the steps below.

Step 1: Within Slack, add Dock's bot from the App Directory.

Step 2: Go into Slack and navigate to the preferred channel.

Step 3: Click the channel name to see more info.

Step 4: Navigate to Integrations tab within that panel.

Step 5: Click Add an App.

Step 6: Find Dock and click Add.

NOTE: For each private Slack channel you want to integrate with Dock, you'll need to manually add the Dock app to that channel. This is a requirement from Slack.

For privacy reasons, we'll only show private channels of which you're a member. We do this by matching your email ID, so please make sure that your email in Dock matches your email in Slack.

Connecting the Workspace to the Slack Channel

The final step to configure notifications is to connect the workspace to the Slack channel.

Step 1: Navigate to the existing workspace.

Step 2: Make sure you're on the Internal tab. Within the About this Workspace section, you'll see Slack.

Step 3: From the form (or dropdown), add the private Slack channel.
