Overview
Dock's content library uses two tools to help teams stay organized: Tags and Views.
Tags categorize individual assets
Views are filtered, saveable lists that surface the right content to the right people.
Together, they give you flexibility in how content is organized and surfaced.
Please note: Only admins of Dock can create or add tags/views.
Tags
Tags are categories applied to an asset— for example, "Competitors," "Case Studies," or "Sales." An asset can have multiple tags, and though tags aren't required, we recommend using them for discoverability.
💡 Dock Tip: If you're using Dock's AI Auto-tag setting, you should create your tag structure first. Dock needs existing tags to apply before it can auto-tag new content!
Views
Views are saved, filterable lists of library content. You can filter views by:
File Type
Tags
Advanced Filters — Owner, Status, Internal, Upload source, Modified date, Views, Shares
You can also customize which columns appear and how they're ordered, then save the view for future use. These are especially helpful to pre-set for your teams to help them find content.
💡 For step-by-step setup, see Library Views.
Best Practices for Organizing Content
1. Build a lean tag structure
Keep tag names consistent and avoid near-duplicates (e.g., don't create both "Case Study" and "Case Studies").
Common patterns:
By team (Sales, CS, Account Management)
By use case (Case Studies, Competitive Intel, Personas)
2. Tag every asset as it's uploaded.
Tags aren't required, but untagged content is harder to surface in Views later.
3. Use Views to create role- or team-specific dashboards.
Combine tag, file type, and status filters to build views like "New Rep Onboarding Kit" or "Q3 Competitive Intel" so team members only see what's relevant to them.
💡 Dock Tip: We recommend you periodically review the Tags and Views tabs in Library Settings to retire stale tags or unused views and keep the library easy to navigate.
