How to create and add a Project Plan template

Updated over a year ago

Overview

Dock enables you to create Project Plan Templates that can be pulled into different workspaces.

Project plan templates have a few key benefits:

  1. Plan templates are synced across workspaces. One change to the template will auto-populate across all active workspaces

  2. Plan templates allow you to auto-assign tasks. From a plan template, you're able to always assign a specific task to your company or customer.

  3. Standardize project plans: Create templates for key project plans that you use again and again with customers to help streamline processes.

Example of a Project Plan Template

This is what a project plan template looks like in the Editor of the workspace.

In the guide below, we'll show you how to create a plan template and how to add it to an existing Workspace.

Creating Plan Templates

Step 1: From your homepage, click into Settings on the lefthand nav bar.

Step 2: In the lefthand bar under Objects, click Plans.

Step 3: Click Create.

Step 4: Choose how you want to create a plan template, either from scratch or from an existing workspace

Since Timelines are heavily customized to the customer/prospect, they are not able to be created as templates.

Creating from Scratch

When you create a plan template from scratch, you'll see the ability to add whatever tasks you'd like to the Checklist or Kanban view.

Build your plan and then click Publish to start using it in Workspaces.

Creating from Existing Workspace

Dock is able to convert all of the plans in a Workspace into a project plan template.

Step 1: Start by searching for the Workspace and click Use.

Dock will then show you all of the project plans in that Workspace.

Step 2: Select the project plans you want to convert by selecting the checkboxes.

Step 3: Click Save Template to turn these plans into "Plan Templates".

Once the plans are converted, you'll be brought to the Plan Template Dashboard where you'll see the plans are in a draft state

Editing Project Plan Templates

To edit any project plan templates, navigate back to the plans sections and click on the ellipsis (...) to the right. Select Edit from the dropdown to make any changes to the plan.

You'll be brought to a plan editor, where you can make any changes to the project plans before publishing for broader use.

Adding a Project Plan Templates to a Workspace

Step 1: When creating a new section, select Project Plans from the lefthand side bar.

Step 2: Select Templates.

Step 3: Find the name of the template and click Add.

Now the project plan template will populate in the workspace! πŸŽ‰

To add a new task to a project plan template, you'll need to edit the project plan from the plan template editor. Keep in mind, any changes made will update across all project plan templates.
