Creating an Agent

How to build your own custom Agent in Dock AI

Overview

In addition to the pre-built Dock Agents, you can create your own custom Agents tailored to your team's specific workflows, data sources, and response formats. Agents you create can be kept private or shared with your entire organization.

To learn more about what Agents are, check out Chatting with Dock AI.

Getting Started

Step 1: Click on Dock AI in the left nav.

Step 2: Click Settings in the top right corner of the Dock AI screen.

Step 3: From the Agents tab, click Create agent in the top right.

Configuring Your Agent

Icon

Click the + icon at the top of the form to add a visual icon for your Agent. You can choose from:

  • Icons — a set of pre-built icons, with Brand, Custom, and Dock Palette color options

  • Docky — Dock's mascot in different styles

  • Uploads — upload your own image

Name

Give your Agent a clear, descriptive name so you and your team can easily identify what it's for.

Instructions

This is the most important part. Instructions tell the Agent what its purpose is and how it should respond.

Use the text field to describe:

  • What the Agent is for

  • How it should behave

  • Any formatting preferences for its responses

Not sure where to start? Type in a short sentence and click ✦ Generate instructions below the text field and Dock AI will draft intructions for you.

Sources

Sources give your Agent the context it needs to produce accurate, relevant responses.

You can add sources two ways:

  • Upload sources — upload files directly (e.g. email templates, style guides, pricing docs)

  • Connect sources — pull in data from connected tools

Connecting Sources

You can pull in data from: Workspaces, Playbooks, Library, Courses, Call Recorders, Customer Emails, Notion, Confluence, and the Internet.

For most of these options there is also a drop-down you can use to be even more granular, i.e. a specific workspace, playbook, or tag.

💡 The more specific and relevant your sources, the better your Agent's responses will be.

Who Has Access

Choose whether your Agent is private or shared:

  • Only you — the Agent will only be visible to you (a Private Agent)

  • Anyone — the Agent will be shared with your entire organization (a Company Agent)

Saving Your Agent

Once you're done configuring, you have two options in the top right:

  • Save as draft — saves your Agent without publishing it. It won't be visible or usable until published.

  • Save and publish — publishes the Agent immediately, making it available based on your access settings.

You can also click Preview to test how your Agent responds before publishing.
